The Rooney Rule and How to Fix It

The Rooney Rule requires every team with a head coaching vacancy to interview at least one or more diverse candidates before making a new hire. The stakeholders of the Rooney Rule are the NFL, teams, coaches, and those in senior executive positions. These stakeholders are the primary critics of the Rooney Rule. With the implementation of the Rooney Rule, there have been two groups of critics have formed. One side of critics argues that the rule isn't doing enough and should be improved upon for the league. At the same time, the other side argues that they should be done away with the rule and people are hired solely based on their merit. However, all these stakeholders agree that the best way to address this problem is by creating a more significant pipeline of minority coaches.
